Program to watch CoH videos YOU record

Man, City of Villians has the coolest toys for your toons! What does this picture and comment have to do with client demos? NOTHING! So lets get on with my post...

OK the link is for a client demo launcher. What is a client demo launcher? It is a nice easy tool to open up videos you can record during CoX gameplay. How do you make a video during gameplay? To record a demo you must first be logged into the game with a character. When you are ready to begin recording use the the following slash command:
/demorecord
Where is the name of the demo you are recording. When you are done recording use the following slash command:
/demostop
This will stop recording and close out your demo, . Your demo, , will then appear in the selection pulldown on the "Demos" tab in this program and, once selected, you can click "Play Demo" to play it. You can use the various demo settings to change playback from fullscreen to windowed, change its resolutiuon, change its frame rate, disable text, or dump screenshots during playback. If you'd like to be able to play demo files by double clicking them in Windows Explorer, you can use the Set File Association button to use the current Demo settings (except for dump to files) to create a File Association for .cohdemo files. Please note a reboot/restart/relogin of Windows may be required for this to work.

Now for the bummer, we can't upload the recorded demos in this blog, but if you want one of a a sewer trial I was on or copies of others I have, email me and I will send it to you. The actual files of the demos must be saved in a folder called client demos in the CoH folder in your C: drive.

Do you need to name the file you are recording? Can you perhaps save this out to a different format? Maybe if Quicktime can play this back you can save it to a QT movie?

Great post!

When you record a file you DO need to name it. Example:

/demorecord DebtBrigadecrushesAlpha

I know the files can be transfered into different formats, not sure how to do it though. But I have seen them on You Tube etc in a variety of forms.

The demo file produced by the demorecord feature is just a list of commands the CoX engine uses to place the characters/objects on the game grid - XYZ coordinates and so forth.

Trick is using that same launcher to produce sequential TGA files at a high-rez per frame. Playback i've discovered runs at a normal rate - while producing TGA's or JPG's per frame naturally runs like a turtle.

That is the only way I know how to do it and then using Premier or Final Cut or some such to composite those frames back together. You can't get sound when you do this.. but you'll be able to render out a Quicktime format or some such.

Oh, don't be confused.. during playback you WILL get sound only while utilizing the CoX engine, it's only when you're outputting those frames to a TGA file or some-such you won't.

That's how I produced the "Boom" video *cough*(plug)*cough*now can be found on youtube under "Coh - Boom".

Oh yeah, don't you worry.. i've caught some fancy-schmancy stuff on vids.. soo.. yeah another video will be coming out soon.

*cue eerie music*
