New Computer suggestions

The guy I get to work on my computer is paranoid about building me a new one. Mostly cuz he doesn't want me to yell at him if it doesn't work lol. He wants me to find out what a good motherboard and graphics cards would be for CoH. I looked on the forum but I'm not getting anything good either due to ignorance at what I'm reading or I'm not using the right search.
Any suggestions on a good system?

Depends on your ability levels. You can go to www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and get a barbones kit and start building from there at very good prices.

If you are hurting for cash, HP puts out very cheap but very efficent comps, at about $500-700. but you may need to get a graphics card. If so insure it has PCIe slots (preferably 2). Problem with HP is all the bloatware (extra software that is unwanted and a royal pain), and the lack of serious upgrades (memory and graphics cards are about it).

If you have about $2500-$7000 to spare, then go to www.Alienware.com and feast.

Any software preloaded, such as XP or Vista? Looks like a fast system will keep you current for a long time. Remember Direct X 10 is the new deal, so all games going to it now, if you buy new recommend looking at that (your stuff will work it). Also check this deal out at Tiger Direct:

I'm going to load my OS from my old system (XP) myself so no preloaded stuff. this store is kinda like hardware only. It has some options for software but minimal when it comes to building your own. Thanks for the tip on directx 10. I already knew about it but I'm sure it qwill be manditory for my new system.

Hey people. Been a while since I posted anything but I just built myself a new comp and figured I'd chime in.

Just a suggestion... You might want to bump up to a larger power supply considering you will be running one of the newer graphics cards out on the market. I'd probably go with no less than 600 watts just to make sure. Being paranoid, I stuck an 800 watt PS in mine just so I never want for more power. Your system will most likely work fine with 400 watts but, better safe than sorry.

Also, make sure you read in detail about what memory brands are supported by the MB you picked. Some of them can be picky about ram timings and it can be a real pain to work out.

I second Baba's site mentions: newegg and tigerdirect. I have built several comps using just those two sites. They are both great companies and often offer extended warranties in addition to the manufacturer warranties.

Anyway, hope you all are doing well with the SG and CoX. Take care.

Thanks Lionshade. You guys have been very helpful. The new system is up and running. Hardware fully tested and checks out great. I went to the very limit of my budget with this comp so a bigger PS isn't an option at this point but I will keep it in mind for my next upgrade. As far as it's performance, it rocks! I'm at the second highest graphics setting with no lag and extremely smooth environment. btw the 2GB of ram cost $48!(after mail in rebate) It pays to shop through these sites. thanks again to both of you for inputting suggestions. It helps to hear from others about the murky world of comp hardware :)
