Sunday Night Smackdown

Tomorrow night Smackdown is going to be held in Recluse's Victory. So come on out and let's try to earn some kills for the fusion generator! We *really need it since I was stupid and placed a gun down without considering the power it would consume. I had to delete a bunch of stuff to get the base to work (the gun cost me 5 million to buy the rad pistols so no, i wasn't going to delete it :P)

Please feel free to invite people to the SG. And PLEASE make sure to keep your toons logged in (especially you, Garl). No one wants to be part of an SG that looks inactive with toons never played.

Any chance of setting something up pvp style round 1pm or 8pm pst on weekends? I'd like to try Ebon out before I respec him for pvp.

I've even been looking at the presence pool for him but need to do some research on it and the powers I would swap out to get it.

Sure, what did you have in mind? Did you just want to do a few practice rounds in the arena?

Arena on the test server sounds good as I don't want to waste the respec. Let me transfer him over and respec him there.

BTW I would get rid of invincibilty and tough hide to get the aoe taunt and single target terrorize. Your thoughts?

Well, I'd be hesitant in dropping primary powers for the fear. It really depends on what you are aiming for. If it were me and I was focused on being an effective tank during a base raid, I'd want to stay standing as long as possible. This would be focusing on my primary. I would sooner drop more of your melee attacks since tank's damage output sucks butt. You will have more of an effect on the enemy using fears and staying upright than punching 'em.

I also think if you are going to take the fear pool, you may as well take it all the way up to the aoe fear.

Well heres the thing. Invincibility gives a def and acc bonus per enemy in melee range and is a toggle. With the IO sets I want Ebon is getting a +35% to acc. The def bonus almost never comes into play because pvpers know better than to get near a tank so seems like a wasted power. Especially since I'm primarily dam resis.
Tough Hide is another def bonus always on no end. The def bonuses work well in pve but pvp I get hit all the time anyways.
I can not get rid of any of my attacks as they are using the IO sets that are giving me perma dull pain.
I have also heard of a dull pain/aid self pvp tank build which is supposed to be very easy to play.
Every time I look at this I have more and more questions. The boards are filled with too much ego stroking and very little useful information so it's going to take time.
Another thing I was wondering is about thefighting pool. On Mid's I have ebon with boxing and tough. Believe it or not without tough my dam resis is not capped out. With it smashing/lethal dam res is capped.
So If I don't need the 2 def bonus powers from my primary and I can live without the fighting pool then I will have the room to get presence and possibly medicine for aid self.
You see? I have too many questions lol. I think I'll just copy him to test and respec him and take a look. Hey do the things you have stored on WW copy over to test? lol yet another question.

Now I know it sounds strange, but if you drop an attack, you can slot the set in Brawl. Yes, I said Brawl. Uber Az on test has a 5 slotted brawl.

If you are looking to bring a tank into the zone, no, they won't be standing toe to toe with you. In base raids, you always seemed to be surrounded by adoring fans. :) I would say drop the passive, but I'd keep Invincibility.

Aid self is a tough thing - in my experience - to use. It's interuptable. YOu can't be moving or being hit or it stops. With 3 interupts on it, it's not bad, but I'd definitely test it out before committing to it. If you don't plan to slot it up with interupts, I wouldn't even bother.

If you have stuff in your tray or inventory, it'll come over. I don't think the WW stuff will go though.

I've been having problems getting the test client going. Think it has to do with my internet service provider or my router. Anywho I took out tough hide, energy punch and conserve power to get the presence pool. Hopefully losing conserve power doesn't put him in end debt hell. Think I have enough end red in my powers to compensate.

On the subject of damage here is my experience with Ebon. He will never do the damage that scrappers and blasters can do but he has two powers that deal out a lot of single target damage. These powers are the reason for his kills in the base raids. Others may want to call it KSing but it still amounts to taking someone out of a fight that could potentially take one of us out. Inbetween taunting I use the following powers in sequence; Build up, bonesmasher, energy transfer, and total focus. This combo can kill a corruptor, MM, blaster, and troller who isn't paying attention. So can tanks rack up the kills? No. Can tanks help with damage output and get the occasional kill? Yes.

Ebon...FYI there are some Fear IO sets that give great recharge bonus...If you go to the full Fear AOE set, you could regain recharge bonuses from the other IO sets lost on attack powers dropped. Not sure of your build but an FYI. Many Doms go with fear just to achieve perma dom via recharge bonuses.

Another power to drop is travel...yup I said it. I grab fitness, slot the swift or hurdle, then slot my sprint. I save out on getting super speed or combat jumping. Not nearly the same but a consideration.

As for HOW you get a kill in a base raid is boiled down to this...a kill is a kill. Period. Base raids aren't about ego stroking like in the pvp zones, they are about the team win. Heck we are fairly civil compared to some I watched Metoid play in other zones. One base built the base with a TRAP. It is common base materials the basically form a cage, they then tp foe or wormhole people into the cage and either pummel them via ranged or leave them there while they drag others off. Not fair, but it is war baby.
How many would like to try that after a while? may dilute their repeat raids if they abuse it, and of course, it could be used against them as well. So base raids differ in pvp zones as I see it.

LoL PvP egos...Gotta tell this story, I was in Sirens hunting the gifts during the event before it ended. I suddenly get hit by a Warrior boss, and start taking him out, when WHAM, two villains appear a drop me thanks to my diminished health. I am like, fine. It is on. So I go invis, listen to them talk smack, then one says he is going in to do a mish,. the other says he is staying out. I go stealth, stalk him, and wham, the debuffs are flying. He is a dom and holds me, I pop a BF. Then I debuff him and slay him like the weenie he was. He cries about me popping the BF and I admit he probably had me if I didn't. But he just tag teamed me??? After my health was at 50%? Whatever, yea yea i popped a BF WAAAAAH. The brute comes out of his mish and he is next on my list. I start on him, and he is like I am so dead blah blah blah. I do what rads do...I weaken him, I widdle him, and he is near dead. No more smack talk....he pops 5, yes FIVE greens, and screams HELLLP, to the dom. I love the smack talk to no end in there. Children and their twisted vision.

Ebon Mauler said...

Weird. From what I've seen on the boards if you don't load up on BF's then your an idiot. Even tanks can't survive a couple of dom's or even 1 dom for that matter with perma dom.

If base raids and pvp zones differ so much is the answer maybe having a raid toon and a pvp zone toon? I think Az had the answer when she said that in pvp a team must be made of people who know what their jobs are and focus on them. No matter if you are in a pvp zone or a raid the team has to work together.

The way I have Ebon set up on mid's he is going to have 5 sets of crushing impact (maximum allowed), 1 set of absolute amazment, and 1 set of fear. My other slots are stretched to the max. I also have enough doctored wounds and perfect zingers to grant me a 10% bonus to fear resistance. With a luck of the gambler thrown in there of 7.5% recharge.

All this being said I successfully downloaded the test client last night and will be testing him in the arena. Anyone who wants can log on to test and beat the crap out of me. Come on I know you want to. I would like to test tough so I need someone who does mostly smashing/lethal.Anyone who has fear effects as well.

Azrhiaz said...

I'll tear you apart with my MM if you like. :) He's got fear and the pets are lethal/smashing. Oh and toxic. Oh and more fear.

I'll duel you on anyone you like. Lumeir likes tanks too. :chomp chomp:

As far as zones go, yeah, they are all crybabies in there. I think it's funny. Had someone call me and Coldie that we were from the Gank Brigade. hee hee

Ebon Mauler said...

Jeez Az are you smack talkin me? Bad form XD.

Thats kool your MM sounds perfect for the test on both levels and throw Lumier in there to I want to test his vulgar display of acc bonuses in the middle of hurricane cuz all the presence stuff is hit required.

Azrhiaz said...

Bring it on, Big Man! :D

How about Sunday? After 6pm pacific sometime?

Baba Kanoosh said...

FYI Colder is running a Statesmans TF on Sunday 6pm PST. Anytime you see me on Ebon ask if I am on (whole family plays) and I will help you if I can with Test. I will bring Planty Man over to see how you handle the doms. Planty is plant/thorn, so this dom is toxic based with debuffs as well.

I made stone tank just base raids, he sucks in pvp, but does ok in the raids. With some more lvls and slotting he will be decent enough. At least to hold aggro and tp foe, :-)
